Vendor Team
What was the reason for the celebration?
We had a SIXTY IN STYLE Intimate Celebration for Bukky as she turned 60 years old. Despite the Covid pandemic, Bukky wanted to mark her 60th birthday in a memorable way.
What is something fun you remembered either about the process or the big day?
Having an intimate celebration has its special perks. Bukky was able to have ample one on one time and lots of laughs with her family. There were so many golden moments however, I will have to say the grandchildren stole the show. The 4-year-old kept re-adjusting her gele (headtie) and the gele-artist had to keep re-tying it a couple of times. The coos and cajoling to have her keep the gele on was a whole mood. Seeing Bukkys’ smiles and the love of her family as they surrounded her was a memorable experience.
Anything super unique about the big day?
Due to the ongoing covid pandemic. Bukky chose to celebrate with her children and grandchildren at home. The design and decor was inspired by her African culture with a bohemian fusion.
Despite not being able to have a big party, Bukky enjoyed the intimate time shared with the most important people in her life.
Any tips you would share with others planning an event?
I will advise that irrespective of the number of guests, you hire a planner who can help you create a theme and vision that is true to your style and also ensure the smooth production and a memorable experience so that you can relax and enjoy your day with your loved ones. The details also count, do not skimp on having good decor and design.
What was your planning experience like?
The event was planned by Adeola of Celebration Events Mgmt. and was planned in about 6 weeks. The vendor team brought their A-Game despite the ongoing pandemic. From the decor to the photography, hair and makeup, caterers … An all-Black Vendor team and everyone delivered excellence !!!
The Location
We chose to have the Celebration and Photo shot at Home. With the main stage set up in the family backyard in an Afro-Bohemian Style.
How did you pick your event day outfit?
Bukky had multiple outfits. As a Nigerian Canadian. It was important that she showcased her Nigerian roots by having traditional Yoruba outfits as well as a Modern Formal Dress fit. She was styled by FEMME FASHUNE for her English Outfits and HADEMEDAY FABRICS sourced all the Nigerian fabrics and Geles. Both are Top Canadian based Fashion Professionals based in Ontario.
What inspired your theme/style?
Her design and decor by MMM DECORS were inspired by her African culture with a bohemian fusion. The use of balloons, rattan, textures was an ode to our culture as African-Canadians.
What menu items did you serve?
The menu was a Nigerian menu that featured dishes that you would not do without in a typical Nigerian party. From the ‘Small chops’ to Jollof Rice, Fried Rice, Gizz-Dodo, Peppered Chicken, Sauteed Fish, and more yummy treats.
Describe your cake/desserts.
The Cake by FRUITILICIOUS was designed to celebrate Bukky’s bold and outgoing nature with a fusion of the flowers, balloons and a touch of blossoming into her diamond jubilee.
