Engagement Session: Christy and Ashley

Christy and Ashley brought a little bit of Greece back to New York City for a second engagement shoot. We loved every moment of it!

Christy gave his bride, Ashley, the surprise engagement she hoped for. While it happened miles away in Santorini, Greece, the couple wanted a second engagement shoot in the heart of New York City. Here’s more on the couple’s love story.

How did you two meet?

We met through a few mutual friends and quickly hit it off. We were both invited to a gathering and exchanged information at that time. We were able to develop a friendship which blossomed into the love we have now.

Tell us about the perfect proposal.

Christy really worked hard to make this proposal a surprise. Since it was out of the country we planned our trip and engagement together. We chose the destination based off of my dream location, Santorini, Greece and planned every detail down to the ring and the outfits together. Then, last minute, The jeweler called me to tell me my ring wasn’t going to be ready in time! I was so upset! We decided to do the proposal at a later time and just go for our vacation in Santorini. Little did I know Christy had the ring all along and pulled off the ultimate surprise and proposed!

Why did you pick the engagement location that you chose? Did anyone help you in selecting the location?

We were set to get married in the heart of the city and there was no better place for our engagement session. Our photographer was great with helping us in this process.

How did you pull off the perfect look? Was there a theme?

Originally we took pictures during our actual engagement. For that, we based it off of admiring photos for a long time we were familiar with the “traditional” Santorini look. The white buildings with blue tops, beautiful stone walkways, the one of a kind sunset. We wanted to carry over the same feel and inspiration for our New York shoot. We wanted to include outdoor elements of the beautiful urban highlights that foreshadowed our New York City wedding.

How is the planning going?

Wedding planning was like something I never experienced before! We planned the majority of our wedding completely by ourselves, just using our own research. We also did a bunch of DIY decorations to save money. We were so lucky because once we chose our vendors, they were all amazing and made the process painless. It’s a lot to manage but having the right people on your team makes it easier. Enduring so much stress but having the wedding of our dreams made it all worth it!

Any vendors making the process a breeze?

Absolutely! All of our vendors made our wedding so special but the top award goes to Rev. Roxy of MARRIED by REV ROXY! Without her guidance I would probably still be lost! She helped us in so many ways! She actually referred us to both our DJ, our Photographer & Videographer (Hey DJ IM, Kesha Lambert Photography + Kuu Productions!!). They were amazing, talented and really brought our wedding to the next level!! Our catering service (Catering Studios) was astounding and everyone loved the food and drinks! With an amazing ceremony by Rev. Roxy, good food, great music and photos to remember it all – you cant go wrong!

What is the biggest thing you are looking forward too on the day of?

The biggest thing we looked forward to on our wedding day was really enjoying the day itself. Sometimes you get too caught up in wanting things to be picture perfect but you can’t forget to have fun! And that is what we looked forward too, having fun with our family and friends while our vendors worked their magic!!
