What is something fun you remembered either about the process or the big day?
I’ve enjoyed the entire process of planning my wedding. I have a background in planning events for my nonprofit and have been able to utilize and enhance my planning skills through planning.
Anything super unique about the big day?
Our hometowns are both known for Lowcountry cuisine. We have decided to serve some of the famous dishes to allow our guests to have a Taste of Gullah.
Any tips you would share with others planning an event?
I would definitely recommend hiring a planner. Though I’ve enjoyed the experience, having my planner has kept me on my toes and organized. I would also suggest you pick a wedding party (Matron, Maid, and Best Man) who are willing to help when needed.
What was your planning experience like?
I hired an event planner for help and my process has been great. I am enjoying each day.
The Location
We chose Charleston, SC because it is the middle place for us. Michelle is from Beaufort, SC and Matthew is from Cross, SC, a small town outside of Charleston. We love everything about the Lowcountry – the food, water, and weather. Founders Hall gave us modern vibes and that is our style.
How did you pick your event day outfit?
I knew that I’d wanted something form-fitting and sexy. I searched for weeks until I found something that I knew would serve the look I wanted.
You Event Style
What inspired your theme/style?
As a couple, we love modern and elegance. I wanted this day to be special and to give off Jay Z and Beyonce flare. I searched the internet for weeks looking for a dress to do just that. I ran across the website tbdress.com and immediately fell in love with the dress I chose once I saw it. I ordered the dress in January, but due to COVID-19, did not receive it until March.
Matthew chose to wear a tuxedo to match my elegant dress.
I chose the color red because it is one of my favorite colors (red and purple), but I chose not to use it for our wedding. We are both members of NPHC (Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi, Inc.) and I didn’t like the feel of red and purple together. So, I chose red for engagement photos and a lavender for the wedding.
