Styled Shoot: I Would Still Choose You

Black is not a color that is traditionally used in weddings, but Pamela Williams, of Pamela Williams Photography, did not shy away from using black in unexpected places for her first styled wedding shoot of the year. “The concept of this shoot was to be different. I wanted something very out of the ordinary,” she said. The color story for this shoot was black and red, with touches of gold. Right away, Pamela knew the couple that she wanted to be a part of this story. Alexis Thomas and Charles Bass III, had been married since May 2011, but had never had a wedding. What would be more perfect than giving them “wedding photos” that they would be able to cherish for their lifetime?

Pamela chose the Marbury Center, a restored firehouse, located in the heart of Augusta, Georgia as the venue for this shoot. With its enormous arched windows and open floor plan, the site provided a clean slate to bring her concept to life. To make the mostly black tablescape stand out, the team from Freeman’s Treasured Events, used black embossed table linens, topped with black chargers and black cloth napkins, accented by a pop in gold in the silverware and candlestick holders, which held black candles. A floral centerpiece, of roses, hydrangea and thistle, provided additional color. A decadent dessert table with meringue cookies, gold painted cranberry dark chocolate bark, gold cookie towers, red velvet cupcakes with black buttercream icing, and red candied apples with black spun sugar, was provided by Mrs. Delightful’s Bakery; and a white, four tier wedding cake with red and black detailing, from Sugarbakers of Augusta, completed the spread.

Alexis, the bride, was stunning in a floor-length, long-sleeved, off the shoulder dress, made entirely of black lace. The groom, Charles, was classic, in a monochromatic look, wearing all black, with a red tie providing a pop of color. His boutonniere comprised of a single black calla lily paired with a red rose, making it the perfect companion to the bridal bouquet, which was made of black calla lilies, pink and red roses, thistles and willow. The highlight of the bride and groom’s wardrobe? An extraordinary, all black wedding ring set.
