Wedding: Tristan and Hunter

How did you all meet?
We met by chance in our neighborhood. Tristan asked Hunter last minute to go to a Shark’s game with him.

Anything super unique about the big day?
You could find that same T|H image on the bar, projected into the reception space, on the menus, the pillows, and more. It was a simple detail that made the whole design feel cohesive.

What was your planning experience like?
Tristan said… “The best and first call my husband and I made following our engagement was to Your Jubilee. Working with Ashley and Meagan was so seamless and easy from day one. They heard our vision and made sure to understand what was going to be important to us on our wedding day. One of the things I appreciated Ashley and Meagan did was travel to the Bay Area for a wedding vendor trip. They took us all around the Bay Area doing food tastings, picking out linens, plates, cutlery, flowers…basically everything. Fast forward to the day of the wedding- they made sure the day ran smooth and transformed the venue space into something that was out of this world.”

Where did you wed and why did you pick the venue/site?
We wed at The Kohl Mansion in Burlingame, CA. We wanted a unique venue that was not typical and would match their black-tie optional theme. The Kohl Mansion is a grand, brick estate with both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Describe the Groom’s and Groomsmen look
Tristan wore two custom tuxes from Suit Supply. Hunter wore a tux from JoS. A. Bank. for the ceremony and then a local San Jose brand called Eli Thomas made his coat for the reception.

We both wanted to look similar in the ceremony so we both did black tuxes for that portion of the wedding. Once the reception hit, we wanted to do an outfit change to let their guests know it was time to party and to let our personalities come through their clothing.

Hunter’s jacket for the reception was a jacquard print. Tristan went for a classic white dinner jacket look to stand out and someone needed to wear white that day.  Also, Tristan selected the white dinner jacket because his late maternal grandfather wore one in one of his favorite pics of him.

What inspired your theme/style? What was your color palette? Why was it important to you?
We decided to do a black-tie look cause the venue was a 1920’s mansion so they wanted to match the vibe of the venue. Also, Your Jubilee branded the wedding as “masculine elegance” and we wanted that theme carried out through every detail from our clothes to the decorations and the vibe of the day.

Describe your cake.
Ombre grey and black textured cake with sugared monstera leaves and gold-dipped succulents.

How did you come up with your wedding day playlist?
The playlist was one of the most critical things for Tristan. He wanted to make sure the music represented each of their unique tastes, but also was going to keep the guests in an upbeat mood. One highlight from the dinner reception was the DJ playing Kc and Jojo “All My Life” and numerous guests joining together for a sing along that was echoed through the whole venue.

Tristan wanted the dance floor packed the whole night and got what he wanted with the DJ playing classic Bay Area hits, pop, rap, r&b, and funk throughout the night.
The grooms wanted the wedding to end on a high note. The grooms worked with the DJ and Your Jubilee to make the Whitney Houston classic ” I Wanna Dance With Somebody” the final song of the night. Your Jubilee had a great idea and made the final song moment even more personal, by creating custom glow sticks with the lyrics of the song on it to make it be an unforgettable ending to a perfect day.

The first dance song was XO by Beyonce and it was a sentimental song to Tristan and Hunter from their early dating days. The grooms had a surprise for their guests and did a choreographed dance for their first dance.

Favors?
The guest favors were cookies of Tristan and Hunter. We were each holding a bottle of Veuve Clicquot…our favorite!
